A blanc from the historic Saint James distillery, bottled under the revived Heritiers Madkaud name, fresh cane juice kept bright and floral with sugarcane, citrus and a vegetal snap, dry and vivid at 50%.
Description
Saint James has distilled in Martinique since 1765 and is among the island's largest AOC houses. This Cuvee Renaissance comes from the Heritiers Madkaud label, a heritage Martinique name working to rebuild its reputation with a new range, here drawing on Saint James spirit made from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses.
Run through a creole column to hold the green, aromatic congeners in the spirit, the blanc is all freshness: sugarcane, vegetal notes, citrus and flowers on the nose, a floral, fresh, citrus-led palate, and a grassy, sugarcane finish. At 50% the spirit has presence without heat, and there is no added sugar under AOC rules. This is a clean, lively agricole blanc that does its best work in a Ti Punch or stirred over ice, where the cane snap and floral lift carry the drink.
