Description
Herència Altés is the Terra Alta project of Núria Altés and Rafael De Haan, based in the village of Batea in southern Catalonia. Terra Alta is a high inland plateau where hot summers and cool nights stretch the ripening season, and the limestone and sandy soils suit old-vine Garnacha, the variety this winery set out to champion. Garnacha thrives in this warm, dry climate, ripening fully to 14.5% alcohol while holding freshness through the wide day-to-night temperature swing. La Borrassona spends twelve months in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange settles the tannins and adds a light frame of spice and vanilla without masking the fruit. The wine is bright ruby, with a nose of raspberry, red cherry and the dried herbs of the surrounding scrubland over a peppery, earthy base. The palate is generous and warm, with ripe red berry fruit, supple tannins and a savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It works well with grilled lamb, mushroom rice dishes and hard sheep's cheeses.
