Henri Bourgeois, a ten-generation family based in Chavignol in Sancerre, makes this organic Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Aged three months on lees, it is a crisp, high-acid white of green apple, passion fruit and citrus with a grassy, mineral edge.
Description
Henri Bourgeois is a family of ten generations of growers based in Chavignol, in the heart of Sancerre. This is their organically farmed Loire Sauvignon Blanc under the wider A.O.C. Val de Loire, made from fruit grown on the Loire's cool limestone and flint soils. That cool continental climate and stony ground are what give Loire Sauvignon its high acidity, citrus drive and characteristic mineral edge. The wine is aged three months on its lees, a short period of contact with spent yeast that adds a little roundness and depth without softening the fresh, cutting style. It is unoaked, so the fruit and the grape's herbaceous character stay to the fore. The colour is pale lemon with green tints. The nose is bright and expressive, with green apple and passion fruit over citrus and a grassy, faintly gentian-like herbal note. The palate is dry and crisp, with high acidity, lemon and orchard fruit and a stony, saline finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and pairs naturally with fresh seafood, goats' cheese and green salads.
