Weingut Heinrich makes this natural rosé in Burgenland from old-vine Blaufränkisch on limestone slopes of the Leitha Mountains. Farmed biodynamically and aged on its lees, it is fresh and direct, with strawberry and cherry.
Description
Heinrich Naked Rosé is a single-variety Blaufränkisch rosé made by Weingut Heinrich in Burgenland, eastern Austria. The fruit comes from old vines on the southeast-facing slopes of the Leitha Mountains at Winden and Breitenbrunn, farmed organically and biodynamically. The soils are a mix of stones, fossil-rich limestone, calcareous sandstone and mica schist, which give the wine its mineral, saline edge and tension. Whole bunches are hand-harvested in mid-September. This is a natural wine, made with minimal intervention: the juice is fermented with native yeast and the wine aged on its lees, which adds texture and a savoury depth as the spent yeast broadens the palate, with no fining, filtration or oak. The colour is a clear pale pink. The nose is fresh and direct, with strawberry and cherry over a herbal, stony note. The palate is dry and crisp, the red fruit framed by bright acidity and a saline mineral finish, the lees ageing lending a little grip and length. This is an honest, food-friendly rosé. Serve lightly chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish, pork and fresh salads.
