Heimat Distillers Heimat Distillers Ramero Rum Blanco (2022)

Heimat Distillers Ramero Rum Blanco is a young white Demerara, the spirit distilled at DDL in Guyana and then rested in Germany by the Heimat distillery in stoneware and red wine casks. At only six months it is a fresh, lightly aged rum rather than a long-matured cask, and the maker has added a little sugar, which shows on the palate.

Bottled at 46%, the rum is light in body. The nose offers coconut, honey and sugarcane but reads as thin, and the palate is sweet and peppery with a spicy edge, again on the lean side. The added sugar is noticeable in the mouth and on the finish. This is an honest, everyday white rum meant for mixing rather than slow sipping, a simple and gently sweetened expression that does not pretend to the depth of an aged Demerara off one of the heritage stills.
