Heimat Distillers Diamond Ramero Rum Single Cask Merlot Finish 2017 is a single cask Demerara from the Diamond distillery, a blend of pot and column still spirit bottled by the German Heimat distillery and finished in Merlot wine casks. From a 2017 vintage, it pairs a solid Guyana base with a red wine cask that lifts it well above the maker's everyday releases.
Matured and finished to cask strength at 60.2%, the rum is rich and spicy. The nose carries milk chocolate, dark chocolate, a spicy lift and wood, while the palate brings spice, more wood and dark chocolate. The finish stays spicy with vanilla and caramel. The Merlot finish is well integrated and raises the base spirit to a fuller, rounder level, adding a beautiful spiciness and a long finish. This is a generous, full-proof Demerara where the red wine cask and the dark spirit meet to good effect, the strongest of the Ramero single casks.
