Havana Club Mango Lime Spirit Drink

This Mango Lime release from Havana Club is not an aged ron but a flavoured spirit drink, a sweet, fruit dosed bottling sitting well outside the serious Cuban ron ligero tradition. It is honest to call it what it is, a flavoured cooler rather than a sipping rum.

The character is dominated by added mango flavour and sweetness, with the aromas reading distinctly synthetic alongside an alcoholic edge, and the palate following suit, sweet, thin and artificial in profile. The low 30% strength and the candy like flavouring make clear this is built for casual, mixed serves rather than neat drinking, at its best lengthened with lemonade or soda over ice. Approached as a summer mixer it does what it sets out to do, but anyone expecting the dry, clean character of proper Havana Club ron should look elsewhere in the range.
