A Cuban seven year old in the light Spanish style, all caramel, vanilla and dry peppery oak with a little tobacco on the finish, soft and reliable at 40% and the classic choice for a Cuba Libre or a simple highball.
Description
Havana Club 7 Anos is a cornerstone of the Cuban ron ligero tradition, distilled on column stills from molasses and aged seven years in the warm island climate before bottling at 40%. The light Spanish style is all about restraint and refinement rather than heavy molasses weight, the work of the maestro ronero who blends and ages for cleanliness and balance.
Because column distillation gives a lighter, cleaner spirit, much of the flavour is drawn from the ex-bourbon oak. The nose offers vanilla, caramel and barrel char, while the palate turns drier and more peppery, with toasted wood, gentle spice and a thread of tobacco on the finish. The alcohol is well integrated and the sweetness sits in the background, more a soft rounding than a dessert note. It earns its reputation as a dependable all rounder, equally happy sipped over ice or anchoring a Cuba Libre.
