Description
Hanyu distillery in Saitama Prefecture, run by Toa Shuzo and closed in 2000, produced single malt that would later be championed by Ichiro Akuto from the founding family. Cask 63, a single Ex-Bourbon Hogshead from the 2000 distillation, was bottled in 2015 after 15 years for the French retailer La Maison du Whisky, one of the independent partners who helped bring Hanyu to an international audience.
Matured solely in a hogshead without further finishing, the cask gives a clean, focused character: vanilla, orchard fruit and a light grain note that the longer maturation has rounded rather than deepened. At 58.8% cask strength the spirit retains its vibrancy. The LMDW provenance marks it as one of the more formally documented single cask expressions from this closed Saitama site.
