Hans Baer Gewürztraminer Feinherb is an off-dry white from Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine region. Low in alcohol at 10 percent, it is aromatic and floral, with rose, apricot and a ripe pineapple note over a soft, gently sweet palate.
Description
Hans Baer Gewürztraminer Feinherb comes from Rheinhessen, the largest and one of the most dynamic wine regions in Germany. Gewürztraminer is a pink-skinned, highly aromatic grape, and in Rheinhessen's temperate climate it keeps enough acidity to balance its ripe, perfumed fruit. The Feinherb designation means the wine is off-dry, with a little residual sugar left after fermentation is stopped, which both frames the aromatics and holds the alcohol down to a modest ten percent. Cool fermentation in stainless steel with no oak protects the grape's signature rose and lychee character and keeps the wine fresh. It is pale gold. The nose is markedly floral, with rose and white flowers over apricot, white peach and a ripe pineapple note, with a touch of ginger spice. The palate is soft and gently sweet, with perfumed stone fruit set against fresh acidity and a clean, faintly spiced finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 degrees in a white glass. Its aromatics and gentle sweetness make it a strong match for spiced food and a good aperitif.
