Description
This single cask of Hampden CH from 1990 was bottled by Spirit of Rum for the Rumclub Private Selection. At 32 years old and 54.51% it is one of the oldest expressions of a celebrated Hampden vintage, a continental aged cask that has had decades to settle.
Pure pot still rum from molasses, it carries the long wild fermentation and double retort distillation that define the house. Age has not tamed the esters so much as framed them: pineapple, overripe banana and marzipan come in waves, with light smoke and well integrated oak giving the funk a mature counterpoint. Bottled unsweetened at cask strength, it rewards patience in the glass and drinks as a benchmark for what long maturation does to high ester Jamaican rum.
