A near three decade Hampden from the high ester HLCF mark, where grilled pineapple and overripe tropical fruit have softened into honeyed cream and polished oak, bottled unsweetened at a full 58.6%.
Description
Distilled at Hampden in Trelawny in 1992 and bottled by Spirit of Rum for the Rumclub Private Selection, this is a single cask from the HLCF mark, one of the distillery's high ester recipes. At 29 years old and 58.6% it sits among the oldest expressions of Jamaica's reference high ester house, the kind of vintage Hampden that only turns up as a one off cask.
It is pure pot still rum from molasses, built on the long wild fermentation that defines the house, then matured in Ex-Bourbon oak. The decades show as integration rather than restraint: the loud esters and pineapple funk are still there but wrapped in creamy texture, ripe banana and well aged barrel spice, with a long fermented finish. Unsweetened and bottled at cask strength, it is a slow, focused pour for drinkers who already know the Hampden profile and want to taste what time does to it.
