A 28 year old Hampden from 1993, a long-aged high-ester funk bomb of pineapple, marzipan, olives and varnish over light wood, a single cask bottled by Rum Artesanal at a powerful 63.5%.
Description
Hampden is the reference point for Jamaican funk, and this single cask from the 1993 vintage, bottled by Germany's Rum Artesanal under its Rum Artesanal line, is a long-aged expression of that intensity. Rum Artesanal is a respected name in the unsweetened, full-proof tradition, drawing heavily on Jamaican heartland stock, and this C and H selection sits among its weightier releases.
Distilled on the double-retort pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it is bottled unsweetened at a hefty 63.5%. Expect intense pineapple and tropical fruit over ester and varnish on the nose, then marzipan, olives, vinegar tang and light wood across the palate and a buttery, fruity finish. Nearly three decades of tropical ageing have layered depth onto the funk without burying it, and the high strength keeps everything concentrated and astringent. A demanding, slow-sipping funk bomb for seasoned Hampden drinkers.
