Hampden Great House (Distillery Edition 2025)

The Great House is Hampden's annual distillery edition, a vatting of the Trelawny estate's marques bottled with no added sugar. Hampden is the benchmark for high-ester Jamaican rum, working with wild fermentation, dunder, muck pits and double-retort pot stills and adding nothing to the spirit, and this release leans into fruit and funk with very little oak getting in the way.

Bottled at 57%, it is intense but surprisingly easy. The nose is loaded with esters, tropical fruit, ripe banana and a funky lift, while the palate keeps the tropical fruit and esters going with pineapple and a touch of wood, finishing on more esters, tropical fruit, tannins and marzipan. There is a menthol freshness and an oily, soft texture that makes the strength slip down dangerously well. The minimal wood keeps the focus squarely on Hampden's fruit-driven funk. A pour for drinkers who love funky Jamaican pot still rum and want the estate's character front and centre, neat or in a high-ester cocktail.
