A cask strength Hampden Great House from Jamaica at 57 percent, a pure pot still vatting from the Trelawny estate with ripe pineapple, banana esters and noticeable oak spice over a woody, fruit driven finish.
Description
Hampden's Great House editions are the estate's own annual vattings, blends built around its lighter marks with a high ester fraction woven in, all from the wild fermentation, dunder, muck pits and double retort pot stills that define the house. This 2024 distillery edition is pure pot still and bottled unsweetened at 57 percent.
The vatting leans on classic Jamaican fruit but carries a drier, wood driven edge here. The nose is tropical fruit, pineapple, ester and banana, the palate brings more tropical fruit alongside oak and ester, and the finish runs woody and estery with pineapple and a touch of caramel. The result is a vivid, evolving Hampden that mixes ripe ester funk with real oak spice. A rewarding bottle for drinkers into Jamaican funk who do not mind a firmer wood presence, equally at home in focused sipping or a bold cocktail.
