Hampden’s 2022 Great House edition is a seven-year Trelawny pot still vatting at 55%, all overripe banana, pineapple and floral esters from wild fermentation and double-retort stills, finishing dry and woody with the house funk intact.
Description
The Great House Distillery Edition is Hampden Estate's annual blend, drawn from the Trelawny distillery that is the reference point for high-ester Jamaican rum. Founded in 1753 and bottling its own aged range only since 2018, Hampden works entirely on pot stills with wild fermentation lasting up to a fortnight, traditional muck pits and no additives, producing the funk-forward style the house is known for.
This seven-year edition is a vatting dominated by lighter marques with a high-ester fraction woven through, aged in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 55%. The nose is unmistakably Hampden, overripe banana and pineapple over floral, estery lift, carrying onto a fruit-driven palate before a dry, woody finish. It keeps the classic Trelawny markers in a slightly drier, very drinkable format, an expressive, unsweetened sipper for those who already enjoy Jamaican funk and want it served with balance.
