Habla la Tierra is an organic red from VT Extremadura, blending Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grown on slate soils. A short oak ageing keeps this warm-climate red juicy, with ripe red fruit and a peppery edge.
Description
Habla la Tierra is a red from VT Extremadura, made by Bodegas Habla from a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The grapes are drawn from a vineyard of sixty-eight plots, each handled separately, planted on slate-rich, infertile, moisture-holding soils. The vines are young, around fifteen years old. Farming is organic, with no herbicides or pesticides, and the bunches are hand picked and carefully sorted. The warm, dry climate of inland Extremadura ripens the fruit fully, giving the wine its generous red fruit and rounded body, while the poor slate soils keep yields modest and add freshness and a stony edge. Tempranillo provides the savoury core, Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, and Syrah brings pepper and dark fruit. The wine is aged four months in French oak, a short ageing that rounds the tannins through gentle oxygen exchange while keeping the fruit bright and the wine ready to drink young. The colour is vibrant ruby. The nose shows ripe red and black fruit, plum and cherry over black pepper, dried herbs and a light oak spice. The palate is medium to full bodied and juicy, with soft tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, lightly spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled meats and stews.
