Habitation Velier Monymusk Monymusk Single Rum MMW 2015

This is a Monymusk Pure Single Rum from Habitation Velier, the line built by the Italian house Velier to showcase single-distillery pot still rum, bottled with no sugar, colour or additives. Monymusk is the pot still rum of Jamaica's Clarendon distillery, a workhouse supplier to blenders and bottlers whose pot output can be properly funky. This 2015 carries the MMW marque and has been tropically aged in Jamaica for seven years.

Bottled at a full 59%, it shows the dry, herbal Clarendon character. The nose carries tropical fruit, vanilla, wood and spice, while the palate keeps the tropical fruit over roasted nuts, oak and a herbal, spiced core, finishing on tropical fruit, spice and firm tannins. Tropical ageing has concentrated it, and the alcohol is well integrated for the strength, powerful but not raw. A rewarding pour for drinkers who already enjoy Clarendon or Monymusk-style Jamaica and want that dry, herbal-fruity profile at cask strength.
