A cask strength young Long Pond from Habitation Velier, three years in ex-bourbon oak, raw and punchy with overripe tropical fruit, banana and solvent funk over young wood, a high-ester Pure Single Jamaican rum at 60%.
Description
Habitation Velier Long Pond STC heart E 2019 is a Pure Single Rum, pot-still distillate from a single Jamaican distillery bottled with no additives, no added sugar and no colouring. Long Pond is the historic Trelawny house known for funky, fruit-forward, sometimes polarising rum, and this STCE mark sits in its higher ester range, so even at a young age the character is loud.
Distilled in 2019 and aged just three years tropically in ex-bourbon casks, it is raw and punchy: overripe tropical fruit, banana and a solventy, varnish-like funk, with young wood drying out the finish. The Jamaican climate does outsized work in those few years, packing in concentration the calendar age would not suggest, and the full-proof, additive-free approach keeps it transparent. At 60% it is intense and rewarding for seasoned funk lovers, excellent neat with air or stirred into a bold Mai Tai.
