Habitation Velier Bielle Muller LL IV/3177 2015

Habitation Velier is Velier's Pure Single Rum line, focused on pot still, single distillery, full proof and unsweetened bottlings, and this is a Bielle from Marie-Galante, distilled from fresh pressed sugar cane and a 2015 vintage. In keeping with local custom for the island's blancs, it is bottled high, at 59%.

Pot still distillation gives it a notably oily, mouth coating texture, while the profile stays fresh and green, with sugar cane sap, grassy herbs, white fruit and a floral chamomile lift. The cane character is bright and clean rather than funky, and the finish runs long for a white, all hay, cane and freshness. Despite the strength it carries its proof with balance. It is an excellent vegetal, high proof blanc for drinkers who love fresh cane character, equally rewarding neat or as the backbone of a Ti' Punch.
