A cask-strength Martinique blanc from A1710 at Habitation du Simon, built on the rare R 579 cane variety, bottled unaged at 54.2% with fresh cane, green olive, herbs and a mineral, pear-and-pepper snap on the finish.
Description
Habitation du Simon A1710 La Perle Rare Canne R 579 2023 is a single-variety Martinique blanc distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, the only legal feedstock under the island's rum AOC. A1710 is a small artisanal label at Habitation du Simon known for its parcellaire approach, isolating specific cane varieties such as this R 579 to capture terroir at full strength.
The creole column is run deliberately low to keep the grassy, vegetal cane congeners in the spirit, and the result is a vivid unaged white. The nose leads with fresh sugar-cane, fruit, green olive and herbs. The palate is mineral and savoury, with olive and a vegetal freshness, before a finish that snaps with cane, ripe pear and white pepper, warming at cask strength. Bottled at 54.2% with no added sugar, this is a blanc for drinkers who want the raw, saline side of agricole undiluted, classic in a Ti Punch but expressive enough to study neat.
