Gurktaler Alpenkraeuter is a traditional Austrian alpine herbal liqueur, produced in the Gurktaler Valley in Carinthia and bottled at 27%. The valley offers rich botanical diversity, and a number of its plants, some of them rare, give the liqueur its characteristically mild and delicate flavour. Gurktaler turns away from the strong bitterness of older bitters toward a gentler, more delicate style, an alpine herbal liqueur built for accessibility rather than harsh bitterness.

The nose is complex and fresh with alpine herbs, the palate mild and delicate with herbal notes, finishing long and soft. Behind the bar it works as a gentle bittersweet herbal modifier, adding mild alpine herbal depth without the heavy bitterness of a harsher style. It serves as an aperitif, a digestif or simply in between, and it matters that it is enjoyed at room temperature so the herbs can develop their flavour. Pour it neat at room temperature as a soft digestif, or use a measure to bring a light herbal note to a stirred drink.
