Guitian Sobre Lías is a Godello from the A Tapada winery in D.O. Valdeorras, Galicia. Ageing on the lees builds texture around ripe pear and white peach, with a floral lift and the fresh acidity of this cool inland region.
Description
Guitian Sobre Lías comes from A Tapada, one of the wineries that led the revival of the Godello grape in the D.O. Valdeorras, an inland appellation in eastern Galicia. This is a single-variety Godello grown in a region with a mix of oceanic and continental influences, where a strong contrast between hot summers and cold winters, tempered by milder springs and autumns, suits high-quality dry whites. Godello gives a naturally full-bodied white with ripe orchard and stone fruit, and it responds well to lees ageing. As the name Sobre Lías indicates, the wine is aged on its fine lees, kept in contact with the spent yeast cells that break down over time and release mannoproteins. This adds weight, a creamy texture and a subtle bready depth while the wine keeps its freshness and defined fruit. The colour is pale straw with green tints. The nose shows ripe pear and white peach with melon and white flowers, and the palate is broad and textured, with a fine lees-derived creaminess balanced by clean acidity and a saline, mineral finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It pairs with richer fish, seafood dishes and white meats.
