A Tapada makes Guitián Godello in Valdeorras, one of the wines that revived the Godello grape. Hand harvested and fermented in steel with native yeast, it is fresh and rounded, with ripe pear, white peach, citrus and a stony mineral finish.
Description
Guitián Godello comes from A Tapada in D.O. Valdeorras, the inland Galician appellation credited with rescuing the Godello grape from near extinction. It is a pure Godello, hand harvested with a selection of the best fruit both in the vineyard and again at the winery. Valdeorras sits in the upper Sil valley on slate and granite soils, at altitude and inland from the Atlantic, so the climate is a step warmer than coastal Galicia but still marked by cool nights that keep the fruit fresh. The grapes ferment for two months in stainless steel with native yeast, which preserves the varietal character and gives a rounder, more textured result than a fast, cool ferment. The wine then rests a further two months before release. Godello sits between the sharp minerality of Albariño and the riper body of a warmer white, and this shows both. The colour is pale straw with green glints. The nose leads with ripe pear, white peach and citrus over a subtle floral note. The palate is fresh but rounded, dry, with good weight, balanced acidity and a stony, mineral finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees in a white glass. It suits white fish, seafood, poultry and creamy sauces.
