Description
Pedra comes from Guímaro, a grower in the Ribeira Sacra of Galicia in northwest Spain, where the Sil and Miño rivers cut deep gorges lined with steep terraced vineyards worked by hand for centuries. The wine is made mainly from Mencía with other native red varieties, grown on slate and granite slopes that drain quickly and reflect heat back onto the fruit, while the cool, damp Atlantic climate keeps ripening gentle and acidity high. Ageing in concrete rather than oak keeps the vessel neutral, preserving the grape's bright fruit and the vineyard's mineral character without adding wood flavour. The colour is bright ruby. The nose shows fresh red berries, redcurrant and cherry over a stony, herbal background. The palate is light-bodied, lively and easy to drink, with gentle tannins, fresh acidity and a saline, mineral finish that speaks of its Atlantic origin. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, and a light chill suits it well. It is an expressive, food-friendly red that suits roast chicken, duck and mushroom dishes.
