Guímaro Camiño Real is a Ribeira Sacra red led by Mencía with native varieties, from Adega Guímaro in Sober. Grown on Galicia’s steep Atlantic slopes and aged seven months in barrel, it is fresh and fragrant, with violets, raspberry and cherry over a stony lift.
Description
Guímaro Camiño Real is made by Adega Guímaro in Sober, in the heart of D.O. Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, a winery known for traditional methods and organic farming of local grapes. The blend is led by Mencía with Caíño Tinto, Garnacha Tintorera, Mouratón and Souson. Ribeira Sacra's vines grow on steep terraces above the Sil and Miño rivers, on slate and granite soils under a cool, damp Atlantic climate; the slopes catch the sun while the river moderates temperature, and the poor schistous soils give wines of freshness, minerality and lower alcohol. The wine ages seven months in a mix of barrels, a light, restrained oak regime that settles the tannins and adds a touch of spice while keeping the fruit and aromatic lift to the fore. The colour is a bright, youthful red. The nose is fragrant and floral, leading with violets, raspberry and fresh cherry. The palate is light and juicy, with crisp acidity, fine tannins and a stony, Atlantic freshness that gives it real drinkability. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees with grilled pork, roast chicken or oily fish.
