A single cask Mauritian rum from Grays under the New Grove Savoir Faire label, a molasses distillate from the 2012 vintage at a punchy 55%, juicy with peach and apricot over rooibos tea, mint and gentle oak.
Description
Grays produces the well-regarded New Grove range on Mauritius, and this Savoir Faire is a single cask from the 2012 vintage. Made from molasses and distilled on a column still, it sits outside the agricole appellations as a distinctive island rum, here bottled at a notably higher strength than the house norm.
Matured in oak and bottled at full cask strength of 55%, it shows the juicy, fruit-driven Mauritius character with extra punch. Peach and apricot lead the nose alongside caramel and wood, the palate stays fruity and lightly caramelised, and the finish is long and dry with red fruit, tea and dried currants. A minty freshness and rooibos note give it a recognisable signature. This is the more intense, rewarding end of New Grove, best given a patient, attentive sip neat.
