Gratavinum GV5 is an organic Priorat from the Cusiné family in Gratallops, blending Cariñena and Garnacha grown on slate. Ten months in French and Hungarian oak frames its dark fruit, mineral depth and firm structure.
Description
Gratavinum GV5 is a red wine made by the Cusiné family at their Gratallops winery in the D.O.Q. Priorat, blending Cariñena and Garnacha Tinta from seventeen hectares farmed organically. Priorat is defined by its licorella slate soils, which drain sharply and force the vines to root deep, restricting yields and concentrating the fruit while lending a clear mineral character. The steep slopes and warm climate, tempered by altitude and a wide swing between day and night temperatures, ripen the Cariñena and Garnacha fully while preserving acidity and aromatic detail. Organic farming keeps the focus on healthy soils and balanced vines. The wine ages ten months in new French and Hungarian oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange through the wood firms and rounds the tannins and adds spice and toast, with the Hungarian oak bringing a slightly tighter, more savoury grain alongside the French. The colour is deep red. The nose shows dark berries, plum, liquorice and a smoky, stony depth. The palate is full and structured, with concentrated fruit, fine firm tannins, peppery spice and a long mineral finish that reflects the slate. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant ahead. It suits roast lamb, beef and game.
