Description
Henri Grandin has produced Loire sparkling wine since 1886, and this Brut follows the traditional method with the second fermentation taking place in bottle. The blend combines Chenin Blanc for freshness, Cabernet Franc for structure and Chardonnay for finesse, grown on the region's calcareous sandstone and tufa limestone soils. After a first fermentation in stainless steel the base wines are blended, then refermented in bottle and riddled and disgorged in the classic way, which builds the fine perlage and layered character.
The wine is a light gold with a persistent bead. The nose offers citrus fruit and white flowers, while the palate is harmonious and fruity with green apple, ripe pear and peach over a fresh, doughy note. Lively acidity carries a long finish. Serve at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It is an easy aperitif and a good match for white meat, fish dishes and seafood.
