Telmo Rodriguez makes Lindes de Remelluri Vinedos en Labastida in Rioja from Garnacha, Tempranillo, Graciano and white grapes. Aged 12 months in barrel, it shows ripe strawberry, red fruit and a fresh, savoury village character.
Description
Lindes de Remelluri is Telmo Rodriguez's project to revive the old vineyards of Rioja, and this wine comes from Labastida, one of the most renowned wine villages of Rioja Alavesa. The vineyards sit on the slopes below the Sierra de Cantabria on poor clay limestone soils, where altitude and a cool continental climate widen the diurnal range and keep the fruit fresh, holding the wine at a moderate 13.5 percent. The blend follows the old field tradition, with Garnacha and Tempranillo joined by Graciano for acidity and colour and a touch of white grapes co fermented for aromatic lift. Ageing for 12 months in barrel rounds the tannins and adds light spice while keeping the fruit and terroir at the centre. The wine is deep cherry red, the nose offering ripe strawberry and red fruit with a floral note, earth and a peppery, herbal edge. The palate is medium bodied, fresh and balanced, the tannins fine, the finish savoury. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits lamb, grilled beef and mushroom dishes.
