Telmo Rodriguez makes Lindes de Remelluri Rivas de Tereso in Rioja from old vineyards of Garnacha and Tempranillo. Aged 12 months in barrel, it shows fresh cherry, red fruit and a savoury, herbal terroir character.
Description
Lindes de Remelluri is Telmo Rodriguez's project to show how Rioja tasted before the industrialisation of wine, built from old village vineyards farmed with respect for the land. This bottling comes from the plots of Rivas de Tereso, high in the Sierra de Cantabria foothills of Rioja Alavesa, where altitude and poor clay limestone soils give the Garnacha and Tempranillo freshness and lift. The cool sites and wide diurnal range slow ripening, holding acidity and keeping the wine balanced at 14 percent. A small portion of white grapes is co fermented in the old field blend tradition, adding aromatic lift. Ageing for 12 months in barrel softens the tannins and adds gentle spice while keeping the fruit and terroir at the centre. The wine is vibrant cherry red, the nose offering fresh red cherry and berries with a savoury, herbal and peppery edge. The palate is medium bodied, fresh and balanced, the tannins fine, the finish savoury. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits lamb, grilled beef and mushroom dishes.
