Description
Contrapunto is the fresh, unoaked Albarino from Granbazan, made at the estate's home in Cambados in Rias Baixas, Galicia in northwest Spain. Where the estate's Limousin cuvee is oak-influenced, Contrapunto is built for immediacy and purity of fruit. Rias Baixas is Spain's coolest, wettest and most Atlantic wine region, and its granitic, sandy soils and maritime climate give Albarino its signature freshness, salinity and firm acidity. The wine is made young in stainless steel, without oak, a method that preserves the grape's primary aromatics and its mineral, saline character. The vines are grown low to the sea, where sea breezes and Atlantic light shape the fruit. The wine is pale with green tints, showing lemon, green apple and white peach over white flowers and a pronounced sea-salt note. The palate is crisp, dry and mineral, driven by bright acidity and a clean, saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
