Description
Gran Patrón Burdeos is the top tier Extra Añejo from Patrón, made in very limited quantity at Hacienda Patrón near Atotonilco, Jalisco. It is built from Blue Weber agave harvested at around eight years for optimal sugar, cooked in stone hornos and crushed on the tahona, the volcanic stone wheel that gives the house its fuller, more textural style alongside its roller mill.
After a first distillation the spirit rests at least twelve months in used American and new French oak, then is distilled a second time and filled into casks that previously held Bordeaux wine for its final maturation. This multi cask path gives the amber spirit a silky body and a profile of sweet vanilla and raisin with notes of oak, dried fruit and a faint Bordeaux vinous lift over a long finish. Bottled at 40%, it is heavily cask shaped by design, with the wine barrel marking the late palate.
