Description
Gran Patrón Burdeos is one of the most distinctive expressions within the Gran Patrón series, created to explore how extended ageing and secondary barrel finishing can reshape tequila without losing its core identity. It begins with fully mature Blue Weber agave sourced from Los Altos, cooked slowly in traditional ovens to develop concentrated sugars and cooked agave character. Extraction combines tahona stone milling with mechanical methods, followed by open fermentation and double distillation in copper pot stills.
Initial maturation takes place in a combination of used American oak and new French oak barrels, allowing oak influence to integrate gradually rather than dominate. Once the tequila has reached maturity, it is transferred to Bordeaux red wine barrels for a secondary finishing period. This step introduces additional aromatic depth, darker colour, and a subtle tannic structure drawn from the wine seasoned wood, adding complexity rather than overt sweetness.
Aromatically, Gran Patrón Burdeos shows cooked agave, vanilla, toasted oak, and dried fruit, with a clear wine cask influence that presents as soft dark fruit and gentle tannin rather than overt wine flavour. On the palate, it is rich and layered, moving from oak warmth and caramelised agave into spice and restrained sweetness before finishing long and polished. The wine cask influence adds weight and texture without obscuring the underlying tequila.
