Gran Feudo Hoya de los Lobos is a Garnacha-led Navarra rosado from the Chivite group, made in Cintruénigo. A brief skin maceration and six months on lees in stainless steel give a textured, fruit-forward rosé of strawberry and white peach.
Description
Bodegas Gran Feudo, part of the Chivite group, sits in Cintruénigo in the Ribera de Navarra, at the warmer southern end of the appellation. This rosado is a blend led by Garnacha, the grape Navarra has long been known for in rosé, alongside Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. The grapes undergo a brief maceration with the skins to draw the colour and fruit, then the wine is aged for six months on its lees in stainless steel vats. That extended lees contact, unusual for a rosé, releases mannoproteins from the spent yeast that add weight and a fine creamy texture without losing freshness. The continental climate of the Ribera, with hot days and cool nights, holds the acidity through ripening. The colour is bright pink. The nose shows ripe strawberry, red cherry and white peach, with a faint peppery note from the darker grapes. The palate is dry and fruit driven, rounder and more textured than a lees-free rosé, with fresh acidity and a clean finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. It suits grilled pork, roast chicken and richer fish.
