Gran Feudo makes this Sauvignon Blanc in D.O. Navarra, aged briefly on its lees. At 11.5 per cent it is crisp and low in alcohol, with melon, citrus and elderflower over a fresh, dry finish.
Description
Gran Feudo has made the wines of Navarra since 1872 from its winery in Cintruénigo, in the north of Spain. Casilla del Guapo is a single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, a grape prized for its aromatic, herbaceous character and its high natural acidity. Navarra's position between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, with cooling influence from the Pyrenees, suits an early-picked, crisp style, and at 11.5 per cent this is a deliberately light, low alcohol wine. It is aged briefly on its lees, which adds a touch of roundness and texture without softening the freshness or clouding the varietal aroma. The colour is pale with green glints. The nose is fresh and expressive, with melon and citrus over green apple, elderflower and white flowers. The palate is dry and crisp, carried by bright acidity to a clean, faintly saline finish. Its low alcohol and lively acidity make it an easy, refreshing style. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and with light fish, shellfish and salads.
