Description
Gran Feudo is a long-established Navarra producer working in the southwest of the denomination, where this red is grown on the plot that gives it its name. Casilla del Guapo blends Tempranillo and Garnacha Tinta, two varieties well matched to Navarra's mix of continental and Mediterranean climate, where warm days ripen the fruit and cooler influences keep acidity in place. The clay and limestone soils give the wine body and structure. It ages for eight months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and the American oak in particular adds a gentle vanilla and sweet-spice frame, while the relatively short ageing keeps the wine fresh and fruit forward. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose shows ripe cherry and raspberry with plum and a subtle oak spice. The palate is medium to full bodied, with ripe red and dark fruit, supple tannins and a vanilla-tinged, lightly herbal finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is an easy match for everyday roasts and grills.
