Description
Gran Cerdo is made by The Wine Love, the project of Gonzalo Gonzalo, a Logroño native who studied biology and oenology and set up on his own in 2003. It blends Tempranillo with Graciano, two varieties at the heart of Rioja, in a young, unoaked style built for immediate enjoyment. Tempranillo gives the wine its bright red fruit and approachable structure, while Graciano, a late ripening, naturally acidic and aromatic variety, adds freshness, colour and a herbal lift. Without barrel ageing the wine keeps all its primary fruit, since there is no oxygen exchange from oak to soften or darken it, which is why it shows such vivid, just picked berry character. The colour is a bright, youthful red. The nose is effervescent and lifted, with raspberry, blackberry and a hint of red liquorice over a fresh herbal edge. The palate is succulent and vibrant, full of wild berry fruit with a juicy acidity, light supple tannins and a clean, fresh finish. This is an everyday red to drink young and slightly cool. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees with casual, flavourful food.
