Gramona makes this naturally sparkling rosat in Penedès from a blend of Garnacha, Cariñena, Merlot and Syrah. Lightly effervescent and organically grown, the 2024 shows sun-ripened strawberry and raspberry with a fresh, frothy palate and a crisp, dry finish.
Description
Gramona, established in 1881 at Sant Sadurni d'Anoia in the heart of Penedès, is one of Catalonia's benchmark sparkling houses. Mustillant Ca La Mar is its lightly sparkling rosat, made from organically farmed Garnacha, Cariñena, Merlot and Syrah grown on the limestone and clay soils of the Mediterranean coast, where sea breezes keep the fruit fresh and the acidity firm. The wine retains a gentle natural fizz from carbon dioxide held back after fermentation, giving small, soft bubbles rather than the fine, persistent bead of a traditional method cava. Made young and unoaked, it keeps the primary red fruit of the grapes intact. Pale cherry pink in the glass, it opens with sun-ripened strawberry and raspberry over a faint floral note. The palate is light and frothy, dry and fruit-driven, with crisp acidity and a clean finish. At 12% it is built for easy, sociable drinking rather than ageing. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a tulip glass or flute. It suits an aperitif, summer salads, cured ham and lighter seafood.
