Description
Gracias a Dios Espadin is a joven mezcal from Santiago Matatlan in Oaxaca, the dense heart of mezcal country, built on Agave angustifolia harvested at around eight years. It is made entirely by hand from Espadin and other agaves, ground, fermented in Santiago Matatlan and distilled in copper by maestro mezcalero Oscar Hernandez Santiago. The house plants three new agaves for every bottle it fills, a real point of substance behind the brand.
Double distilled, it carries a broad and harmonious texture in which citrus, smoke and tropical fruit sit against the dry tones of an earthy minerality. The flavour is bold, aromatic and balanced, and at 45% it has enough strength to hold its own neat while still working well in a cocktail. It is a clear, classic expression of valley Espadin, mild in complexity rather than aggressive in smoke.
