Description
Gracias a Dios Espadin Reposado is an Oaxacan mezcal from a producer rooted in four generations of maestros mezcaleros, made in Santiago Matatlan, the town that calls itself the world capital of mezcal. It is built on Espadin (Agave angustifolia) and rested four months in American oak, a short repose that adds wood without burying the agave.
The piñas are pit roasted, milled and fermented in Santiago Matatlan, then double distilled in copper by maestro mezcalero Oscar Hernandez Santiago in the artesanal style. The brief barrel time brings caramel, vanilla and toasted oak alongside the roasted agave, with orange peel and citrus, a touch of honey and butter, and copper minerality. Smoke runs through the nose and carries into a long, smoke leaning finish. Bottled at 45%, with three new agaves planted for every bottle filled.
