Gotes del Priorat blends Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah from the slate slopes of Priorat, aged twelve months in French oak and left unfiltered. A structured, mineral red of red berries, dark plum and stony depth.
Description
Gotes del Priorat is made by Alfredo Arribas at Portal del Priorat, a producer in D.O.Q. Priorat known for research and a careful, low-intervention approach. The wine blends Garnacha and Cariñena from vines of different ages with a portion of Syrah, all farmed organically and with respect for the surrounding landscape. The defining feature of Priorat is its slate soil, the llicorella, which drains hard and pushes roots deep, giving the wine its mineral, smoky grip and dark fruit concentration. The steep terraces and dry, hot summers hold yields low and ripen the fruit fully at 14% alcohol, while cool nights preserve freshness. Ageing runs to twelve months in French oak barrels, where measured oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds gentle spice, and the wine is bottled unfiltered to keep texture and aromatic detail intact. The colour is deep ruby. The nose shows red berries, dark plum, a peppery edge and the stony minerality of the place. The palate is full and structured, with firm tannins, savoury depth and a long mineral finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting half an hour ahead. It suits grilled and roast red meats.
