Goslings Old Rum („Family Reserve“)

Goslings Old Rum, the Family Reserve, is the aged, dressed up expression from the Bermuda house best known for its Black Seal and the Dark and Stormy. At sixteen years and 40 percent it leans dark and dessert like, a richer, older take for drinkers moving beyond basic sweet rums. It carries the brand's signature smoothness while adding noticeably more depth.

Blended from molasses rum off both pot and column stills and matured in ex bourbon wood, it is sweetened, and the added sugar shows in its rounded, dessert leaning body. Expect chocolate, coffee, caramel, dried fruit and oak spice, with dark chocolate and roasted coffee carrying a long finish. There is the occasional faintly chemical edge some drinkers notice, but overall it reads rich and comforting. It works as an after dinner sipper or in robust cocktails, an easy crossover that surprises with its depth despite the modest strength and obvious sweetness.
