Ego Bodegas makes this Jumilla rosado from hand-harvested Garnacha in the warm Murcian interior. Macerated on skins for colour, it is deeper and fruit-driven, with ripe strawberry, cherry and a juicy, generous finish.
Description
Goru Rosado is a single-varietal Garnacha made by Ego Bodegas under the D.O. Jumilla in Murcia, in the warm south-east of Spain. The Jumilla interior is hot and dry, with poor limestone soils and a wide diurnal range that helps the grapes keep freshness despite the heat. The Garnacha clusters are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and collected in small crates to protect the fruit on the way to the winery. There the grapes macerate on their skins until a good colour is reached, which gives the wine a deeper, more vivid pink than the pale Provence style and a riper, fruit-forward character. After the must is run off the solids, a cool fermentation preserves the aromatics. The wine shows ripe strawberry and cherry fruit, a touch of plum and white peach, and a herbal lift from the warm climate. The palate is dry but generous, with juicy red fruit, moderate acidity and a rounded, fruit-driven finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. Its fuller fruit suits richer fare than a delicate pale rosé, working with roast chicken, grilled pork, mildly spiced dishes and substantial salads.
