Goru Gold is a vegan Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend from Ego Bodegas in D.O. Jumilla. Hand-picked at full ripeness and given 30 days on its skins, it shows mocha, dark chocolate and ripe blackberry, aged 12 months in new oak.
Description
Goru Gold comes from Ego Bodegas in D.O. Jumilla, a warm, dry region in Murcia where Monastrell is king. The wine blends Monastrell with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, hand-harvested at full ripeness around the third week of October. Jumilla's hot, arid climate and stony, limestone soils stress the vines and concentrate sugar and colour in the grapes, which is the source of the wine's depth and its generous 14.5 percent alcohol. After picking, the grapes ferment and macerate on their skins for around 30 days at 28 degrees, a long contact time that pulls maximum colour, tannin and dark-fruit flavour from the skins. The wine then ages 12 months in new American and French oak barrels, whose fresh wood adds the mocha, vanilla and toast that mark the style. It pours an opaque, dark red. The nose is mocha, dark chocolate and sweet spice over ripe blackberry, with coffee and pepper underneath. The palate is broad and enveloping, full-bodied with ripe tannin and a long, oak-spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant ahead. It suits grilled red meat and rich, smoky dishes.
