Goru El Blanco is made by Ego Bodegas in the D.O. Jumilla, in the warm interior of Murcia a short drive from the historic town of Jumilla. The estate is best known for old ungrafted Monastrell, but this white pairs Chardonnay with Moscatel de Alejandría to combine structure with aromatic lift. Jumilla's climate is hot and dry with limestone-rich soils and a wide day-to-night temperature swing at altitude, the cool nights preserving acidity and aromatic freshness in fruit that would otherwise ripen quickly. The Chardonnay contributes body, melon and orchard fruit, while the Moscatel brings its signature floral, grapey perfume and a hint of apricot and honey. The wine is made in a fresh, unoaked style to keep the fruit and florals to the front, fermented at controlled temperature and bottled young. It is bright straw yellow with an open, perfumed nose of white peach, melon and Muscat flowers. The palate is dry to just off-dry in impression, round and fruit-forward, closing with a clean citrus lift. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with light dishes.
