Description
Coto de Gomariz farms in the D.O. Ribeiro, on the stretch of Galicia known as the Golden Mile, a family estate with roots reaching back to the tenth century. The X in the name marks the winery's exceptional vineyards, here the O Taboleiro plot planted to Godello. The soils are granitic sand over decomposed rock, free draining and low in vigour, which keeps yields modest and concentrates the fruit. Ribeiro sits inland from the Atlantic, so warm days give ripeness while cool nights hold the natural acidity that defines the grape. Fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel to preserve primary fruit and the saline character of the site, with no oak to mask it. The wine is pale straw with green tints. The nose leads on fresh yellow fruit, a subtle lanolin note typical of Godello, a green pepper lift and a clear saline nuance. The palate is dry and textured, with peach and green apple, lemon and a stony, savoury finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.
