A barrel-aged Albariño from Forjas del Salnés in Rías Baixas, a small family estate working with winemaker Raúl Pérez. Grown on granite and sand near the Atlantic, the barrel raising gives a textured white of stone fruit, citrus and a saline, mineral edge.
Description
Forjas del Salnés is a small family estate in Rías Baixas, in coastal Galicia, working in collaboration with Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's most influential winemakers. A Telleira is a single-vineyard Albariño and a sibling to the estate's well-known Sketch. Rías Baixas lies open to the Atlantic in the green, damp north-west of Spain, and its granite and sandy soils drain fast under high rainfall, while the maritime setting and sea breezes hold bright acidity and lend Albariño its characteristic saline lift. Unlike the many fresh, unoaked wines of the region, this one is barrel-aged, so the wine matures in wood with time on its fine lees, gaining texture, a rounder body and a savoury depth while keeping the grape's mineral cut. The colour is a bright straw. The nose shows white peach and apricot with lemon, beeswax and a clear salty note, and the palate is textured and precise, its stone fruit and saline acidity carried into a long, mineral finish. Serve chilled at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits shellfish, white and oily fish and roast chicken.
