Gold of Mauritius is the Litchquor brand behind this Emerald Edition, part of its Heritage Selection. Made on the island from sugar-cane honey rather than molasses or fresh juice, distilled on a column still and aged five years in ex-bourbon barrels under tropical heat, it sits in the softer, rounder camp of Indian Ocean rum rather than the grassy agricole tradition.
Released at a sessionable 40% with sweetening undisclosed, it noses notably herbal and minty, eucalyptus and menthol with a faint rubbery edge, while the warmer side of the profile brings nuts, caramel and vanilla. The result is gentle and a touch flat in body, an undemanding pour built more for easy sipping than for intensity.
