Description
Godeval is a Valdeorras estate that helped bring Godello back from near disappearance in the 1970s, and Revival takes its name from that recovery. The vineyards sit in the hills of eastern Galicia, on slopes of slate and decomposed granite that drain freely and hold little vigour, which keeps yields low and flavours concentrated. Height and the tail end of the Atlantic keep nights cool, so the fruit ripens slowly and retains a firm line of acidity. After pressing, the wine ferments in stainless steel to protect the fruit, then spends around five months on its fine lees. That contact releases mannoproteins that broaden the texture and add a light savoury character without oak. The colour is pale straw with green flecks. The nose leads with white peach, green apple and pear over orchard blossom and a wet stone edge. The palate is fresh and medium bodied, mineral and clean, with citrus peel carrying a long finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a standard white glass.
